Pasta Loco is included here for completeness, not as a live option -- it closed permanently in July 2023, and the closure is unambiguous across every source: BristolWorld, ITV News West Country and Bristol24/7 all carried the same story at the time. Owners Ben Harvey and Dom Borel, who built the restaurant into a genuinely award-winning fixture over seven years, cited rising rent and Bristol City Council's handling of the Cotham Hill pedestrianisation scheme as the deciding factors -- they said they had been allocated space for only two outdoor tables, with the loss of business that implied.

By every account this would have been a strong fit for the brief: small, founder-led, well-loved, exactly the kind of single-site independent this series is built to support. That fact is worth keeping on record precisely because it explains why its two Bianchis Group siblings on this same shortlist (Pasta Ripiena, Pazzo) carry the ownership caveat they do -- Harvey and Borel didn't leave the business, they consolidated into it, continuing to run Pasta Ripiena and (with cousin Joe Harvey) the wider Bianchis Group.

The former unit at 37A Cotham Hill did not sit empty long: Mangosteen, a Thai tapas restaurant, opened there in February 2024 and is unconnected to the Pasta Loco team. There is nothing to book here -- this row exists purely so the directory tells the truth about why a well-regarded name from Sam's list no longer has a page of its own.
